As we get past the age of 50, some of us will experience leg pain from stenosis, where the spinal canal becomes narrower, crimping the spinal cord. This in turn creates pain that radiates down into the leg. Even walking becomes difficult, let alone any kind of sports activity. For patients with stenosis, sitting relieves the pain, while standing and walking worsens it. Traditionally, a spine surgeon tries to enlarge the spinal canal by removing some of the bone to make room for the spinal cord. This surgery can be complicated and can require several days in the hospital to recover. How X-stop technology helps Using a new spinal instrument, called X-stop, a surgeon installs the device as a brace between the vertebral segments. X-stop surgery can be done in half the time, and is less invasive and less risky than traditional surgery. The spine surgeons at Black Hills Neurosurgery & Spine are trained in X-stop surgery. To see if you are a candidate for X-stop surgery, call us. We can discuss your symptoms.
